August is a nice month. Here on the BC coast it is typically toasty warm, and the days of summer wind down in extraordinary magnificence. They are beautiful and grand and teeming with breathtaking moments that--no matter how long you live here--will always, always, always leave you with a sense of wonder and fulfillment, unless of course your head isn't screwed on properly. In that case, you most likely would miss out on such unreal and wild moments or you would not soak them up and into your soul to cherish as one of life's amazing elements to savour. Because you'd be too busy figuring that what's going on tomorrow or next week or how much money you can make to take in the glory of living and being witness to the grandeur of nature and life.
This weekend in Canada is a long weekend. Each province is celebrating themselves, and here in BC I for one and whooping it up in the MOST BEAUTIFUL SUMMERTIME PLACE ON EARTH. Sorry fellow Canadians, because I do know that our entire country is totally rad and spectacular--one of the main reasons I LOVE MY NATION--but hey, I grew up in the prairies and I can tell you that not one time, in my thirteen years there, did I ever witness such beauty and such a copious amount of wildlife in the proximity of MY BACKYARD as I have here, in one weekend. Seriously, this place is amazing and just one time you all should check it out and spend some time on the water!!!!!
We took our boat across the bay on Friday and Saturday evening to spend time with friends and partake in a Canadian long weekend tradition: beer drinking.
It was all good and easy going and fun and while we sat and enjoyed good time with good people, we watched a seal flop onto the dock in front of us and watch us, a heron tread lightly and stealthily right net to the seal while she hunted for her dinner and a good numbered flock of kingfishers swooping and cawing searching for their fish. AMAZING! BEAUTY-FULL!
And all just five minutes from our home. In our backyard.
And to think that last year I would have been one of those folks who DID NOT have my head screwed on properly. I missed out on these moments, and even if they were within my grasp of purveyance, I'd have missed it because I was not tuned into life and its beauty. Thank you mental breakdown and thank you art therapy
