Passionate Observer WEEK# 2: Color, light, shadow, and different points of view.

We took a small break from the Passionate Observer photo challenge last week and I was glad for it as I had a mini family vacation planned right at the same time!  This helped me not feel stressed about posting my weekly photos as well as having the best opportunity to capture the snippets of life shots.

This week's challenge was to capture the daily snippets of life, but with a focus on color, light, shadow and different points of view.  Hence the title of this blog post.
I took a fair amount of shots in B&W.  Mainly I did this because I love B&W, but also because when you take out color, I feel, you get to really see a lot of detail in your shot.  Things that may not usually stand out are suddenly dynamic.  Many of my shots are of everyday ordinary things, but when you shoot with a focus on color, light shadow and POV, these ordinary items are elevated to extraordinary.

We are supposed to post ten shots each week, but this is hard for me to do.  I take so many photos every week, it's kinda insane (don't ask my husband), so this week I chose 13 photos to post.  They were my absolute faves and I thought they were all pretty perfect for this particular challenge.

1. crosswalk sign B&W 2. VW van B&W 3. homegrown garlic 4. forks in a mug B&W 5. Rudbeckia 6. shadow girl at the park B&W 7. silhouette dancer-girl at the lake B&W 8. pattern on my placemat 9. silhouette dog with 2/4 family B&W members in the lake 10. morning light diffused onto coffee mug (yum!) 11.glass vase and its own reflection 12. sunlight streaming through tress and illuminating the campfire smoke 13. red/yellow peppers and zucchini grill

  1. Hi there, I wanted to tell you that I really enjoyed looking at your pix for this challenge, in particular the juxtaposition of the first two images the crosswalk sign and the old VW bus just about summed up an earlier era for me. The sunlight through the trees is such a difficult subject to get just right, mine always seem to turn out too light or too dark.
