I give thanks.

Well.

It has been a long and exhausting week over here at this household.

Late night talks and queries and concerns have been the main theme of our life.

Hugs, kisses, comforts and love have flourished.

Bonds, friendship and kindness have prevailed.

Sadness, fret and pain have been met with an unabashed, unapologetic, fierce force that I like to call true love and friendship.

I am realizing in the most profound way that taking a risk in love; putting my most vulnerable self "out there" to be seen is by far one of the greatest gifts of life.

It can be painful.  It can feel like the world is closing in and falling apart.  And, to be sure, due to the circumstances we have faced this week as a married couple & as a family, it can be riddled with anxiety.  But taking the risk to keep going; to push through; to commit to love when it seems easier to fight against it, is the most rewarding experience I have ever had.

After this week, we are all stronger people and our family bond is thicker than ever.  It would take an epic emotional landslide, the likes of which has never been seen, to break us apart.

I am not going to share the details of what went on for us this week here on the blog.  I know what happened and I am unwilling to share it with anyone other than close friends and family.
What I will share here is a poem that was written in a card I purchased for my amazing husband a few years ago, yet never gave to him.
I guess was waiting for the right time of life to give it to him.  A time when the message would mean more and be more profound than any random prescribed holiday or occasion.

This is that time.

My husband, my lover, my friend.
Do you know how often I give thanks for you each day?
When I watch you sleeping, I give thanks for comfort.
When I see you caring for our home I give thanks for safety.
For the person you are I give thanks.
For the trust that lives between us, I give thanks.
For your painstaking attention to the details that matter most, I give thanks.
For all that we know and all that we have yet to learn together, for sadness, for joy, I give thanks.
Words can barely express how thankful I am for our marriage.
